This homesite came with the original farmhouse that the subdivision was built around. The challenge to Jenkins was to design and build a new home and to renovate the old farmhouse as a guest house and workroom for the client’s business. To tie it all together, the home was built in front of the farmhouse and just to the left so that it appeared to be all one series of buildings from the street.
The siding was replaced with a more durable product that approximated the old siding. Then, the new home was built with mostly stone and just a little stucco that was painted the exact same color as the siding on the original building. The result was a beautiful blending of old and new that thrilled the clients for their smart use of existing materials.
