This elegant contemporary style home was built for a young couple just starting out on a “skip lot” in an established neighborhood in Austin. A “skip lot” is a lot that was never built on, for any number of reasons. They come up for sale every now and then in established neighborhoods and are generally not for sale very long before someone buys them.

This home’s look is kept simple by the linear shape and kept comfortable by its raised bar and central location, truly the hub of the home. Ample storage in the galley behind the main kitchen allows mail, cell phones, crafts, pantry items, and small appliances to be stored out of sight. The unique design of this walk-around galley behind the Kitchen ensures ample countertop space for holiday meals and large family gatherings. Located just off the garage, it also serves as a great drop-off place for keys and phones. Using green, sustainable materials, such as concrete countertops and floors, brought a clean, simple look to the Kitchen while also benefitting the tight budget. The soft blue/grey hues on the walls blend beautifully with the stainless appliances while contemporary lighting completes the look.
